Thunder of Freedom: The story of a teen vocalist, beaten and assaulted by a white deputy, who turns her fury into uniting a town behind one man’s fight for a seat in the Mississippi legislature.

Benefit for the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial.

This performance included a full cast reading parts of the feature-length film screenplay. Vocal solos and duets by Meliita Thygeson-Wright and Takiiya Thygeson-Green were accompanied by Charles Obije on the keyboard.

This performance commemorates the 1920 Duluth lynching of Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson and Isaac McGhie.

Screenplay by Cheryl Reitan. Inspired by the book, Thunder of Freedom: Black Leadership and the Transformation of 1960s Mississippi, by Sue [Lorenzi] Sojourner with Cheryl Reitan.
